Must-haves for the first weeks with a baby

For a good start, a few truly essential items are enough:

• Clothing: 4–5 bodysuits, 2–3 rompers, 1-2 hats,
• Sleep: 2-3 pajamas or sleep sacks, crib with a firmer mattress and fitted sheet, pacifier
• Care: Changing pad, diapers, wet wipes, diaper rash cream, powder, muslin cloths, washcloths, mild shampoo, baby oil, small tub for bathing, bath thermometer and fever thermometer
• On the Go: Car seat for the car, stroller or baby wrap.

With these, your baby will be well cared for in the first few weeks.

Nice-to-have, but not a must or only later

Breast pump or bottle warmer with baby bottles, if breastfeeding is not possible.

Sterilizer, warming lamp, baby scale, or lots of toys – these sound practical but are rarely used in most households.

For starters, it's much more important to have the must-have basics ready, and then figure out what else you might need later.
